World's tallest free standing mountain
Standing at 5895 meters, Mt Kilimanjaro is the largest free-standing mountain in the world. With no supporting mountain range, Kilimanjaro bulges from the Serengeti and provides a stunning and picturesque trek to its summit.
After first climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2010, we have fallen in love with Kili and the amazing Tanzanian people that help each of our expeditions get to the summit. Our local trek manager, Nteze, personally guides the majority of our expeditions and has proven to be a favourite amongst trekkers all over the world.
Join On Track Expeditions as we take you up the Machame Route to the Mount Kilimanjaro summit, Uhuru Peak, some 17,000 feet above sea level. With the support of the incredible On Track Expeditions guides and porters, you will be in great hands as you take on one of the world’s great treks.

Machame Route
Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, is a large volcano and is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, while Kibo is dormant and could erupt again. Uhuru Peak is the highest peak on Kibo’s crater rim. The Tanzania National Parks Authority, lists the height of Uhuru Peak as 5,895 m (19,341 ft).
In 1889, the first successful Mt Kilimanjaro trek was completed by German geographer, Hans Meyer, after six weeks of climbing. However, it is possible that Kilimanjaro’s summit was reached by locals prior to Hans Meyer, but was never recorded.
Our expeditions take us up the Machame route which has been described as the most scenic route on the mountain. Although not the easiest, the Machame route has become the most popular due to its spectacular vistas and its ability to be climbed in just 7 days.
Itinerary
At On Track Expeditions we want you to achieve the ultimate goal, which is making the summit of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain. The Machame Route will allow you to stand on the rooftop of Africa.
