The number one questions we are getting asked at the moment is:
“When will we be able to walk Kokoda?”
Many of our current and future clients are keen to know if and when their Kokoda Expedition will be going ahead and for this we can only answer with:
“As soon as possible”
We and may of our friends in the travel industry and the amazing Kokoda Track Operators Association (KTOA) are working together to make sure that when we can travel, everything is ready to go.
The KTOA are in constant consultation with DFAT, High Commission PNG and the Kokoda Track Authority (KTA) to make sure that the track and villages will be ready. This is working on new hygiene management strategies, campsite quality and ease of travel once the boarders are open to both Australia and PNG.
Our friends at the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF) are continuing their efforts to supply much needed PPE and hygiene equipment to remote medical stations dotted all over PNG. This effort often goes with little support so please check out their fundraising page as they aim for $20,000 AUD - click here to help!
Did you miss the KTF's beautiful Anzac Day documentary? Here is the whole amazing 20 minute video:
At On Track Expeditions, we are working with all our clients to establish every possible option for them to expedience Kokoda, be it late 2020 or in 2021. We know that we will be back on the track, it’s just waiting as we all work hard to ‘flatten the curve’ so that we can explore beautiful PNG again.
If you are thinking of walking Kokoda but haven’t booked, then can I please recommend:
- Book sooner rather than later as we are experiencing a higher volume of enquires and bookings post ANZAC Day
- Check the T&C’s of who you are booking with (Flexibility is key)
- Get training and get excited
2021 will be an amazing year once we can get our feet on the track as our local teams and villages are missing us and the value we bring to a country like PNG.
